Binding and Finishing

A professional presentation requires professional binding and finishing.

A beautiful print job loses all its impact if the binding is outmoded or amateurish. Our finishing department can give your piece a prestigious, professional look using methods only available through a full service printer.

A range of bindery and finishing methods and materials

In an era when speed, ease of production and digitization has made in-house and amateur printing more acceptable, it is hard to avoid a certain "generic" look with printed products. More and more, the choices made in the finishing stages of the job are what will set you apart from the crowd. Some examples of prestigious finishing options are special varnish effects, foil stamping, embossing, raised printing, die-cutting and specialty folding and gluing effects. Finishing options that enhance the functionality of printed pieces include such processes as scoring, perforating and numbering.

Some binding options are purely functional, like the side-stitching (side-stapling) commonly used for booking receipts, tickets, etc. and corner stapling of multi-page documents for informational purposes. Saddle stitching (staples in the spine, like a magazine) Wire-O and plastic coil binding are functional and more presentable. Hidden coil and perfect binding are very presentable, while case-binding (hard cover) with cloth or leather is the most prestigious means of binding.

Environmentally Friendly Options

When you need to show that you care about the environment there are bio-degradable, recycled, post-consumer waste and Forest Stewardship certified materials available.

Flexible Production Options

Our range of carefully chosen finishing equipment allows us to choose the most cost effective and appropriate means to bind or finish your product, such as digital foil application for short run report covers, certificates and the like. Our large format printing and laminating equipment allows us to produce short run, full colour wraps for case-bound books.

Tip

When producing embossed or foiled business cards, it is usually most economical to produce "shells" in a larger quantity to get economy of scale on the more costly finishing processes and we can inventory them for you. These shells can be subsequently imprinted with the individuals' information in smaller quantities on an "on-demand" basis.
